Study Compares Boostrix Polio To Separate Vaccines For Diphtheria Tetanus Pertussis And Polio

Upcoming Study Finds Combined Vaccine More Effective Than Separate Vaccines

Study Compares Boostrix Polio to Separate Vaccines for Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, and Polio

Research Could Lead to New Recommendations for Vaccination Schedule

A new study is underway to compare the effectiveness of a combined vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and polio (Boostrix Polio) to separate vaccines for each disease. The study is being conducted by researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is expected to be completed in 2024.

The combined vaccine is currently recommended for adults and children over the age of 3 who have not been previously vaccinated against these diseases. The separate vaccines are recommended for children under the age of 3 and for adults who have not been vaccinated against these diseases before.

The study will compare the effectiveness of the combined vaccine to the separate vaccines in preventing diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and polio. The study will also compare the safety of the two vaccines.

The results of the study could lead to new recommendations for the vaccination schedule for these diseases. If the combined vaccine is found to be more effective and safer than the separate vaccines, it could be recommended for use in all children and adults.
